Welcome to the CTC Bristol District Association home page
Introduction by Ron Carlton
On joining the Cyclists' Touring Club, one automatically becomes a member of its local District Association (DA) - an association of members who have come together to encourage cycling in all its aspects and to foster the social spirit amongst its members. Founded in 1907, the Bristol DA currently has over 2500 CTC members living within its boundary.
Geographically, the Bristol DA includes Bristol itself, Gloucestershire, and most of Somerset and Wiltshire. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty which includes the Cotswold, Mendip and Quantock Hills, part of Exmoor, the Berkeley Vale, the Forest of Dean and the Wiltshire Downs, all of which are ideal for cycling.
In addition to cycling events, the DA stages a Photographic Competition and Exhibition, Slide Shows by presenters of national repute and a Dinner and Dance at which the annual awards are presented.
Bristol DA members are encouraged to participate in CTC National events, including the York Rally, the Birthday Rides and the New Forest Cycling Week. The DA will be holding events that qualify in the CTC District Association Tourist Competition.
At various locations throughout the DA, members have come together to form Sections. These smaller units enable members to enjoy regular club riding which, together with the Bristol DA and CTC national programme, provide a comprehensive series of events throughout the year catering for the abilities of most cyclists. Inter-section activities are also encouraged.
The Bristol DA's own magazine "The Tourist" is published quarterly and contains news and reports of current events, together with contributions from club members. Copies can be obtained from Section Secretaries or by mail for a subscription of £2 per year from Brenda Carlton (address as above). Sadly not available on the internet - Yet !!
