Visit to Alkmaar, June 2009

In the Summer of 2008, Alkmaar Victrix, a cycling club from Bath's twin city in the Netherlands visited Bath and cycled back home. To return the compliment we will be riding to Alkmaar and back this June. This page is to give information to those going and possibly inspire others to join us.

Alkmaar is a beautiful city, about twice the size of Bath, in North Holland. The iconic picture of Alkmaar is of the cheese porters; men dressed like morris dancers carrying large cheeses around of stretchers. That aside, there's plenty of atmosphere to soak up - canals, narrow cobbled streets, medieval buildings. There's even a beach nearby. Alkmaar is also reputed to be one of the best cities in the Netherlands for retail therapy - so remember to leave some spare room in your panniers! For more information try these links:
